Who does MOSAIC change things for?
Your medical lapsed.
You can still fly.
If you hold a Private, Commercial, or ATP certificate and your FAA medical has expired, MOSAIC lets you fly on a driver's license under Sport Pilot privileges — including Cessna 172s and Piper Cherokees.
You always wanted to fly.
Now it's within reach.
20 hours of training. No medical exam. Costs comparable to owning an SUV. MOSAIC just removed the three biggest barriers to becoming a pilot.
MOSAIC Explained (The "Meat")
MOSAIC 101
The biggest aviation rule change in 20 years
- explained plainly.
For decades, the FAA defined Light Sport Aircraft by a strict weight limit of 1,320 lbs. MOSAIC (Modernization of Special Airworthiness Certification) flips the script. By moving to performance-based criteria—focusing on stall speed and cruise speed rather than gross weight—the FAA has effectively unlocked 75% of the existing General Aviation fleet for Sport Pilots. This means you can now fly many of the airplanes you already know and love without the burden of a traditional FAA medical.
